4,000-yr-old neolithic petroglyph discovered

Krishnagiri: A team of archaeologists led by the curator of the Krishnagiri district government museum C Govindaraj has discovered a 4,000-year-old petroglyph of a gaur at Moolaikollai village, which is situated two kilometres away where an archaeological excavation is being carried out.
R Prakash, a member of the team, had found the petroglyph on Serupadichan Kundu boulder. “We rushed to the spot after hearing about the petroglyph and confirmed that it belonged to the Neolithic period,” Govindaraj said.
“The four-foot-long, three-foot-wide petroglyph was made of sharp stone. The team also discovered an unfinished petroglyph, believed to be of a peacock,” he added.
Excavations at Mayiladumparai had confirmed that iron was used in Tamil Nadu 4,200 years ago.
